This special edition is the epitome of what Guatemalan coffee represents for us. In 2020, we embarked on a mission to explore unknown areas, to connect with producers, to build new relationships, and to continue discovering the unfound potential of Guatemala. Coffees made invisible, not because of their lack of quality but because they were so hard to access, due to restrictive infrastructure, as well as limited commercial alliances. Recognising that something potentially amazing was being missed out on, we embarked on a new adventure and created our first Laboratorio Móvil or “Mobile Laboratory” – a way we could explore and not just connect with producers, but also learn about their very specific and personal context. Our QA team packed up all the equipment and set off to find these unique small-scale producers.

Through Guatemala’s rough and narrow roads, on rainy days and up steep slopes, we traveled to find small towns located 400 km from the capital. And all to source some of the best coffees that can be found in this origin. Through this project, we can now work directly with producers and buy their coffee right on the farm, providing means of transportation, allowing these producers to access markets and receive timely feedback for their coffee.
